YELLOW SPRINGS ART SHOW PROUD OF ITS 40 YEARS OF ARTISTIC SUCCESS
WHAT: 40TH YELLOW SPRINGS ART SHOW
WHEN: April 27 through May 12, 2013
WHERE: The Lincoln Building, Village of Yellow Springs
HOURS: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily
CHARGE: Free to the Public
OPENING GALA: Friday, April 26 – reservations required
The 40th anniversary of the Yellow Springs Art Show is being planned to honor the success of this once clothesline show held on Art School Road in 1973. The year before the founding of our current Historic Yellow Springs, the Yellow Springs Association was sponsoring its annual Festival. Art activities were already happening at the Studio building and Esther Altmann, who was involved there, suggested doing an art show as part of the Festival. A saying by philosopher Lao Tzu states, “The journey…begins with a single step.” Well, forty giant steps later we celebrate the Yellow Springs Art Show.
Plan to join us April 27 through May 12 to view another spectacular art show in our Lincoln Building. All works, painting and sculpture, are available for sale. Show Chair Maureen Fendrick promises a full variety of style and subject matter and a full spectrum of color and excitement. As always, she will be introducing new artists to join our current artists whose talent and work are vital to the success of the show. She also is working to bring fun and celebrating to enhance this anniversary show. Cheryl Donley, Gail Fishman and Jan Mest join as co-chairs to produce the show and bring the best art in our region to you.
You won’t want to miss these special activities:
April 27 – 28 – Local schools have been invited to participate in a new “Clothesline” art show reminiscent of our very first Yellow Springs Art Show. You will see some spectacular art by future art show participants.
Sunday, April 28 and May 5 – Enjoy the delicious treats from Dia Doce Cupcake Truck who will be on site for your pleasure. Dia Doce won the cupcake wars on the Food Network.
May 4-5 and May 12 – 13 – Our artist Helena van Emmerik Finn will be on our porch and ready to paint your portrait. She does children and adults and enjoys meeting our visitors to the show. Many have loved watching her work and having their own portrait done by Helena
April 21 – Life’s Patina will be hosting a benefit for the Yellow Springs Art Show at Willowbrook Farm. Many unusual and special items will be available for sale and profits will support our show. Check out the website at www.lifespatina.com and come out to support us.
