The Laughing Fu Lion

My latest artwork, The Laughing Fu Lion, was inspired by the traditional Chinese guardian temple lions.

Artwork measures 18×24 inches (approximately). Mixed media on light gray deckled discontinued handmade Spanish paper of unknown make. Media includes foil and paper collage, liquid gold leaf, liquid copper leaf, acrylics, a little bit of colored pencil and black sharpie marker.

Fu Lions (or foo lions) are common representations of lions in pre-modern China. These mythical lions are said to have protective powers and are often depicted in statues guarding temples, palaces, tombs etc. They are usually in pairs, with the male lion holding a ball, and the female lion with a cub.

You can see some photos of the artwork in progress on my facebook fan page.

You can purchase prints or T-shirts of "The Laughing Fu Lion" through my Redbubble site.
