The Pretty Thing

This looks like what would happen if H.R. Giger and science got together: Japan’s Large Helical Device was designed to "conduct fusion-plasma confinement research in a steady-state."

I don't know what that MEANS exactly, but the results are beautiful. Now if only they could get a poet to give it a more imaginative name than "Large Helical Device". Bit obvious, yes?
