Bears On Parade

If you live in the Philadelphia area, you may want to check out some temporary art standing guard on Germantown Avenue in the Chestnut Hill section of the city. A dozen fiberglass bears are currently on display outside of the J.S. Jenks Elementary School (around the 8300 block of Germantown Avenue at Southampton) as part of a fundraising event by AbZOOlutely Chestnut Hill. The sculptures will be on display until November 9, where they will be sold at auction. Each of the fiberglass bears have been painted by different artists and are sponsored by local businesses.

According to an article in the Chestnut Hill Local, 20 percent of the proceeds will benefit the Chestnut Hill Adult while the rest of the money will go to the Chestnut Hill District and will fund tree lighting along the Avenue. This is AbZOOlutely's second fundraiser; the first was in 2006 and featured 50 different fiberglass animals all up and down the Avenue.

I saw these as well. The red punk one with the tubes sticking out of it was my favorite.
