NEWS UPDATE
DNC "Donkeys Around Town"
Next week I will begin painting two donkey statues that are a part of a large public arts project tied in with the upcoming DNC Convention this summer in Philly.
More specifically, I am one of 28 artists selected to paint 57 fiberglass donkeys that will be displayed around downtown Philadelphia during the Democratic National Convention in July.
Download the official press release on the Donkeys Around Town project here.
Over the past few weeks all of the artists on the project worked on their donkey design templates, which were then approved by the state delegates as well as the project committees. Each of the donkeys will have designs painted on them to represent one of the 50 states, US territories and Washington DC. I am responsible for the donkeys representing Oklahoma and Missouri.
State delegates gave each artist six symbols that they could pick from to incorporate into their donkey design (artists were required to choose a minimum of three symbols from these six). For my Oklahoma donkey, the three symbols I picked included a bison, theSurvivor Tree, and the symbol on their state flag. For Missouri, I chose the state bird (a bluebird), the state flower (a white hawthorn blossom) and the St. Louis Arch. You can view all the donkey designs by the artists here (although final designs may differ due to delegate feedback).
Starting next week, myself and the other artists on the project will go to a warehouse in Philadelphia where will we will have five days to paint our two life-size donkeys. It will be a tight time frame so I expect to be working around the clock for those five days. I have heard there may be some sort of press event at the warehouse, and if so I'll be sure to post news of it up on my facebook page, as well as photos during the painting process. So if you have not already, please 'like' and follow me on my facebook page here. I will also post my donkeys locations in Philadelphia when they have been finalized.
According to ArtJawn, who helped organize the project:

According to ArtJawn, who helped organize the project:
"The Donkeys Around Town program is a civic initiative of the Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee for the Democratic National Convention. In celebration of the 2016 Democratic National Convention, fifty-seven fiberglass donkeys will be painted by local artists to represent the fifty states, Washington, D.C. and the six U.S. territories. The donkeys, the symbol of the Democratic Party, will be displayed July 1-31, 2016 at popular sites and attractions throughout Philadelphia. The Donkeys Around Town program will include a social media campaign as well as a scavenger hunt - facilitated through an app that will be created specifically for this program - in order to engage residents, delegates and visitors in the excitement around the Convention and make everyone feel like they are part of the action in Philadelphia during Convention week."
Even though the donkeys will be promoted in July, they will actually be displayed around town through Labor Day for those of you wanting to check them out.
This is a HUGE opportunity for me, and I want to thank artist Wendy Edsall-Kerwin who initially alerted me to this art opportunity back in February.

Price Increases
As of August 2016, I will be increasing the prices of my miniature original paintings. Due to costs of travel to shows, the 40-50% percentage fee taken by most galleries, and the labor involved, it is no longer feasible for me to sell my miniature paintings for as low as $125 dollars.
As of August my 6 x 6" paintings will be priced at $150 and my 8x8" paintings will be priced at $200.
If you wish to purchase some of my miniature works and want to keep the current pricing levels, please contact me before August 1 to secure your original painting. You can view all of my available artworks online at www.lynnetteshelley.com
