Latest Artwork: Holy Cow!
This latest artwork started as a challenge between myself and another artist friend. We show a lot of work in Chester County, which is deep in Wyeth country. Many of the galleries and art buyers have a fixation on Wyeth-esque landscapes and rural scenes with cows and barns. There is nothing wrong with any of these things but if you are open-minded art lover, it can be get a bit old, to say the least, to not see more representation of other art forms and styles. (One artist told me of a gallery who refused to show her work because she wasn't using 'Wyeth-green' in her painting. )
It's not that there aren't other artists making art in the area (that's one of the great things about the Chester County Studio Tour - all kinds of artists are highlighted in the area), but that these art styles are underrepresented in some of the art shows as some of the art buyers there have more conventional / more literal tastes. My friend and I used to joke about how many barn or cow paintings we'd see at these shows. (There ARE some galleries that are in Chester County that are more open-minded - Mala Galleria in Kennett Square and also my own JAM Gallery Malvern, just to name two).
Anyway, my friend and I decided to have a 'cow-off'. We were both to paint the traditional subject matter of a cow but paint it in our own more contemporary styles.
So this is my contemporary cow ;)
