Latest Artwork: "The Sweet and the Sour (Still Life with Snakes)"
Whenever I do large group art shows, or art fairs, or look at work of studio artists on the internet, I invariably see all kinds of still life paintings. I understand why artists do them though I invariably do not because I don't find the subject matter very interesting. (Not knocking anybody who does them though, as they are a great way to work on technique, and you have an immediate source of material to paint live from.) In my opinion, still life work is the equivalent of musicians jamming on a 'standard', that is a song that has been done a million times before, but its a way of showing off your skills and uniqueness as a musician by your interpretation of the song. So I get that. And yet I still vary rarely do still life work. Except this week I did one, and added snakes to it. Because that's what I like to do ;)
