Work in Progress: "If I Were A Phoenix Bird..."
I started a new artwork today, which I plan on working on, live, tonight out on the street as part of festivities at First Friday in Ambler, PA. The title from this piece comes from a song ("The Song for Icarus") I wrote with my band The Red Masque.
"...If I were a phoenix bird,
I'd take this flame inside of me.
I would rival the sun;
It would not outshine me.
From a great height I would burn..."
I thought about drawing a woman who was holding a phoenix close to her heart and letting the flames of the bird consume all around her. I'm still working out the detail but here is a start....
19 x 25 inches
Oil pastels and colored pencil on paper (so far)
