More about the artwork
In "The Poisoner" the black heron represents pollution, signified by his oily black color and the black stylized water ripples reaching out to the clean silver waves inhabited by the white heron. A dying fish is shown floating in the foreground. A golden sun is setting in a darkening purple sky.
According to the Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge , great white herons are a white color-phase of great blue herons and are only found in the Florida Keys.
An accident, such as an oil spill, would have terrible consequences on such niche location birds. In addition, other birds such as pelicans and sea birds, as well as water-dwelling mammals and fish (sea turtles, shrimps, crabs) would also be badly affected by such pollution. This would also affect humans in the tourism and fishing industries and local economies.
19×12.5 inches approx. Mixed media (oil pastels, colored pencils, liquid gold and silver leaf) on Canson paper. Some scratchwork textures were also created with an exacto knife.
Artwork is an original, one-of-a-kind item.
