Fruit Loops?

A supposed "Miracle Fruit" is apparently the rage amongst trend-setters. The berry, Synsepalum dulcificum, is native to West Africa, and "rewires" your taste-buds so that different flavors can have different effects. It's a sensory hallucination for your tongue that lasts for about an hour or so. Sour flavors become sweet, and foods that are already sweet can become unpalatable. Apparently, there were efforts to use the fruit as a sugar substitute but they were turned down by the FDA. Read the entire New York Times article here.
