Dark Art

I'm currently working on a possible T-shirt design for three-time Grammy-winning artist Jill Scott. I will post up some of the design concepts later, but basically they involve a stylized illustration of Scott amongst some other imagery.

In the meantime, I came across this new art blog that has some fascinating artwork and illustrations: Art Diabolique. If you like darker imagery with your art and sculpture, then you should check out the site. According to the blog's manifesto:

There is a shadowy presence in todays art world, an ever emerging zeitgeist. Over the last few years artists have gradually shifted towards the more somber and fatalistic, exploring the darker side of mankind. In a world where religion breeds war and wholesale killing is the norm, humanity is finally becoming aware of its own ugliness. Society welcomes its sinful proclivities with open arms and is basking in the glory of its own mortality.

Art Diabolique will focus on artists that express themselves in less conventional ways and are not afraid to exist on the fringe of the art community. Our main goal is to expose artists who are not often represented in the contemporary gallery system and go unnoticed because they don’t create marketable imagery. We will stay true to our mission and hopefully become an inspirational resource for all.

One of my favorite images so far that I have seen on the blog is by painter Paul Lewin. See picture below.
