Latest Work in Progress
I started a new piece this past week and tentatively called it “The Stampede” but most people who have seen it so far expressed the fact they didn’t like the title. Since I am not sold on it (it was just a working title), please feel free to offer your suggestions below in the comments.
In the meantime, here are some photographs of the work in progress (WIP).

RIP the Captain
(Photo credit: I am not sure whose photo this is so if somebody knows send me a note so I can credit the photographer with a link)
With all that has been going on this past weekend, I didn't get to acknowledge that one of the music world's biggest geniuses has sadly passed away: Don Van Vliet, aka Captain Beefheart. While his death was nor surprising because of his bad health problems over the years, it is still sad though he lives on his paintings and in his albums.
A nice documentary about his artwork and music:

Latest Artwork: Bowerbird (Mini)
I finished up my new "Bowerbird" artwork last night. It's one of a series of mini paintings I make with ink, tea and wine as the main mediums. I also ended up selling another mini ("The Raven Steals the Sun") over on my Etsy shop so I think these are being fairly well received. I plan on making a bunch more for some upcoming solo and group shows.
I have another holiday art show tonight so I'll probably bring these out as well.

Work in Progress - Bowerbird Mini
I’ll have this finished tonight most likely, but here are some photos of a piece I worked on for a couple of hours last night.
For those of you who don’t know anything about Bowerbirds, they are really fascinating. They are like the interior decorators of birds. The males arrange elaborate bowers to attract mates (i.e. the ones with the best “pads” get the girl). To that end, they actually arrange foliage, berries etc to decorate their bower (which are elaborate “buildings” made out of thatched twigs etc.) Some of them even PAINT with twigs dipped into natural dyes to further decorate the bower.
There are different types of bowerbirds. The one below is a satin bowerbird (not the same one as the one in the above video).

I finished up another "mini" artwork last night; this one is based off of the Haida myth of the raven who steals the sun and created sunlight for the world. The Haida are an indigenous nation of the Pacific Northwest Coast of North America; they have a unique art style and this piece was somewhat inspired by their artwork style.
